Poor visibility likely today due to dust haze, says NiMET

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has made the following predictions about Nigeria’s weather condition for today, Monday, January 25, 2016:

NORTHERN STATES: Deterioration in visibility values (1-3km) due to dust haze will be experienced over Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, Potiskum and Gombe. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 09-16oC.

CENTRAL STATES: Abuja, Bida, Lafia, Yola, Ilorin, Makurdi and Nassarawa are probable to low visibility values of 1-3km as a result of dust haze. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 15-19oC.

SOUTHERN STATES: The inland cities such as Oshogbo, Abeokuta, Enugu, Awka, Owerri and Ibadan are expected to be affected by dust haze, while there is prospect of hazy condition around the coastal cities which include Lagos, Yenegoa, Port Harcourt, Eket and Calabar. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 15-22oC.

NOTE: During this period of the year, the atmosphere is usually very dry, windy and dusty. Citizens should avoid substances that may ignite easily to reduce incidences of fire outbreaks. Flight operations may be disrupted due to poor visibility in some airports across the country.
