Improved visibility likely today, even as dust haze persists —NiMET

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has made the following predictions about Nigeria’s weather condition for today, Thursday, January 21, 2016:

NORTHERN STATES: Improved visibility values in dust haze will be experienced in places like Maiduguri, Potiskum, Kano, Katsina, Gombe and Yola. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 10-18oC.

CENTRAL STATES: Dust haze situations will prevail over Abuja, Minna, Bida, Nassarawa, Ilorin Yola and Makurdi, visibility over few cities may however be less than 2000m. Temperatures in the night are likely to be in the range of 15- 21oC.

SOUTHERN STATES: Mist/fog patches are expected in the early morning hours over the coastal cities. There are prospect of light rain showers over Port Harcourt, Calabar and Yenagoa during the afternoon/evening period. Partly cloudy conditions are anticipated in places around, Abeokuta, Ibadan, Owerri and Benin while Ekiti, Enugu, Awka Obudu and Ikom should be hazy. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 17-26oC.

NOTE: During this period of the year, the atmosphere is usually very dry, windy and dusty. Citizens should avoid substances that may ignite easily to reduce incidences of fire outbreaks.
