Obiano expresses shock over Adazi Nnukwu inferno

Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has visited fire disaster area of Adazi Nnukwu in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state to see for himself the damages done by a strange fire that gutted a block of shops in the night.

Consoling the shop owners whose businesses worth millions of naira were completely destroyed by the inferno, the governor, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, expressed shock that live-savings of Anambra people could be burnt within minutes.

The deputy governor while struggling to hold back tears during the visit yesterday, said that this kind of incident worries the governor. He promised that efforts would be put in top gear to avoid future occurrence.

He promised that the state government will make adequate arrangements to take care of the situation and urged the people to always observe the basic safety rules.

On his party, former National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, who was also at the scene of the incident, sympathised with the victims and requested for details of the loss for immediate assistance.

In his words, “This is a sad part of life, we are lucky no live was lost. The lost equipment and materials will be replaced immediately.”

In his reaction, the representative of the town’s traditional ruler, Pius Obiakonwa (Agujiegbe), thanked Governor Obiano for the quick response and support noting that much pains have been alleviated by the visit.

Lamenting on her loss, a tailor, Miss Ukamaka Okeke, said: “Everything in my shop got burn including materials brought by my customers for me to sow for them. I am totally devastated.”

She called on the state government to come to their aid saying that they do not have any other hope.

Also present at the scene were Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Uju Nworgu, the President-General of Adazi-Nnukwu, Chief Ben Enemuo; Hon Ejiofor Ikeobi of Anaocha Local Government Council, stakeholders, APGA faithful and sympathisers.
