Arsenal are set to announce the signing of two young Nigerian players. Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze, both of whom shone brightly at the 2015 Under-17 World Cup in Chile won by Nigeria, are expected to be part of the three players Arsenal would be signing in the winter window; the other being Mohammed Elneny of Basle who would be drafted immediately to the club’s first team.
According to the British newspaper, Daily Mirror, Arsene Wenger is confident that Arsenal have beaten Bayern Munich to bring Nwakali and Chukwueze to the Emirates.
A combined £3m fee (about N870 million) has been agreed with the Diamond Football Academy in Nigeria and the deal could be announced later in January, the report said.
Complete Football magazine recently claimed to have spoken with the family of Nwakali who emerged Best Player of the cadet world cup in Chile, where they confirmed that their boy is joining The Gunners.
Allwell Nwakali, elder brother of Kelechi, said: “We, as a family, have accepted Arsenal’s offer
and interest for Kelechi Nwakali.”
Continuing, he revealed: “There were offers from clubs like Udinese, Olympiacos and even Manchester City, but we have settled for Arsenal. They had a better offer, not in terms of money but in areas like the development of the player’s career which is very important.
“So, after carefully studying all the various documents from the various clubs’ representatives or agents, we, as a family, deliberated on them and of course with the consent of the player himself because he’s the principal actor here, decided to go with Arsenal because we believe his career will get a positive push there.”
