Moderate visibility to prevail in many places across Nigeria today: NiMET

Observations have shown that there is fresh dust outbreak from Chad Republic on Tuesday morning although of less magnitude and the present report of horizontal visibility shows good visibility. The implication of this development is that dust haze will still be in suspension in the atmosphere but with moderate visibility in many places, especially in the north.

NORTHERN STATES: Maiduguri, Potiskum, Kano, Nguru, Yola and environ should generally expect dust haze in moderate visibility of about 3-5km. However, this situation will not likely affect flight operations over these areas while other places will experience dust haze in good visibility. Night time temperatures should be between 7-15oC.

CENTRAL STATES: Dust haze is expected over this region in good visibility. Night time temperature should be between 16-20oC.

SOUTHERN STATES: Visibility over this area will likely be within 2-3km due to already suspended dust in the atmosphere. Night time temperature over this area should be between 13-20oC.

NOTE: During this period of the year, the atmosphere is usually very dry, dusty and windy. Citizens should avoid substances that may ignite fire easily, to reduce incidences of fire outbreaks.
