President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday sent a powerful delegation to the ancient town of Dikwa in Borno State where some Internally Displaced People (IDPs) are presently taking refuge in temporary camps.

The delegation, which was led by the Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, was received by the Local Government Chairman, Mohammed Ali Gana, who conducted the team round the IDP Camp, clinic and kitchen, among other places.

Addressing the IDPs, Governor Shettima said: “I am here as an emissary of President Buhari. We are here to commiserate with the people of Dikwa, Ngala, Kala-Balge, Mafa and Marte who have congregated in Dikwa town and to assure you of his unflinching support and empathy.

“I bought a message of hope from President Buhari that in Sha Allah all effort must be on board to see that your communities, your schools and your infrastructures destroyed by the demented monsters of Boko Haram would be rebuilt in the new year in the first quarter of 2016.”

Gov. Shettima commended all stakeholders in the local government and other donor agencies, especially the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North East Zonal Office for their roles in catering for citizens of the state who have suffered from insurgents’ attacks.

The Governor was accompanied to the visit by NEMA Zonal Coordinator, Alhaji Muhammed Kanar, and the outgoing GOC of the 7 Division Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Lamidi Adeosun.

Commenting on the welfare of the IDPs, NEMA North East Zone Information Officer Abdulkadir Ibrahim said in a statement in Maiduguri: “NEMA has been partnering with the Borno State Emergency Management Agency and other humanitarian stakeholders in the rehabilitation of over 1.5 million individuals and communities affected by insurgency in the North East region. The agency has been providing providing relief materials, tents, drugs and medical services to communities recently liberated from insurgents’ control.”
