Super Eagles hitman Odion Ighalo continued his fantastic form for his club in England as he scored a double to help his Premiership side Watford to a surprisingly comfortable 3-0 win over visiting Liverpool on Sunday evening.

Liverpool’s hung-looking Hungarian goalkeeper Adam Bogdam, making his first appearance for the Scousers, failed to handle a simple cross into his box, allowing Nathan Ake to head home the opener in the third minute.

Ighalo doubled Watford’s lead later in the first half, when he collected a through ball from strike partner Troy Feeney and then brushed off the challenge of Liverpool’s veteran defender Martin Skrtel to score from a tight angle.

Ighalo was a constant thorn in the flesh of the Liverpool defence with his physique and intelligent movement. He scored his second goal, and Watford’s third, in the second half with a simple header.

The Nigerian striker has now scored 28 goals this year, the highest return of any player across the English divisions.

Liverpool were a disappointing unit and failed to show their aggressive gegenpressing (counter-pressing) football that is associated with their new German Manager Jurgen Klopp.

The visiting manager said after the match: “It was a deserved win for Watford. Not because

of our faults, but more because of the reaction to our faults.”

On his part, Watford Manager Quique Flores said of the game: “Of course we want to dream but we want to remain humble. This is our one advantage, because the Premier League is very tough.

“We have a lot of matches and we never underestimate the teams we play. We are completely happy with the performance. It was an amazing victory against an amazing team.”
