Gboyega Akosile, Chief Press Secretary to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has insisted that his principal towers above all his challengers and deserves re-election on March 18. He marshaled out reasons in a recent interview with News Express.

News Express. His words:

First and foremost, the government of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu does not consider ethnic or religious sentiments when planning for development of the state. The government plans for everyone irrespective of colour, race, ethnic origin, sex or religion. So the issue of Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba does not have a place in our plans. Our Greater Lagos development agenda tagged THEMES does not know race or religion. It speaks only to Lagosians.

However, speaking specifically to the peaceful coexistence of ethnic nationalities, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ensured that no tribe is victimized or threatened by anyone in Lagos. He has provided adequate security for every ethnic minority such the Ndigbo and Hausa communities in the state. The administration enjoys a very cordial relationship with the Igbo community in Lagos State. He has a lot of Igbo friends and regards them as his brothers and sisters.

He appointed an Igbo man into his Cabinet so that there would a seamless relationship between him and the Igbo.

Governor Sanwo-Olu has demonstrated his love for the Igbo in several ways. But beyond the Igbo, I’d say it’s his love for humanity. Take for instance, the family of the late Ndubuisi Kanu loves Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu because of his deep relationship with the former Governor. When he passed on, the Governor took the burial as his personal project, giving the late elder statesman a befitting burial. He didn’t say because he was an Igbo man, no! He looks at everyone as Lagosians.

You and I remember the case of Nigerian gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa – Governor Sanwo-Olu redeemed a pledge made by the State Government of a beautiful house. Today, she’s a house owner in Lagos State courtesy of Governor Sanwo-Olu. What the more recent one, that of Henry Nwosu, whose medical bills were picked up to the last kobo by this gentleman? There are many good deeds of Governor Sanwo-Olu towards the Igbo that we have not made public because we don’t want to play cheap politics but truth is, the man loves the Nidigbo in Lagos.

Everyone in Lagos should file out on Saturday to cast their vote for Governor Sanwo-Olu for many reasons. Chiefly among these reasons is continuity of good governance – the government has started on a well thought out THEMES developmental agenda, which can be seen and felt all across Lagos State from Traffic Management and Transportation to Health and Environment, Education and Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century economy, Entertainment and Tourism as well as Security and good governance. We have delivered on all these. A simple Google search will reveal a whole of achievements under each of these pillars. We need to continue with this developmental trajectory.

Bringing in a new person will stall the development process of Lagos and that will affect you and me.

Secondly is experience, which brings about expertise. You can’t wish that away. Governor Sanwo-Olu is the most experienced among those contesting. If you vote for any other person, you would turn Lagos into the hands of an inexperienced person and that may spell doom for the State.

Capacity and competence are among other reasons you need to consider when voting on Saturday.
