Iran demands ‘swift probe’ into Shiite crackdown

The Iranian parliament on Tuesday called for immediate probe into last weekend’s military crackdown on Nigeria’s Shiites.

In a letter to Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria Yakubu Dogara, Speaker Ali Larijani condemned the tragic incident and called for immediate investigation of the incident.

He also called for preventing fratricide and checking pitting Muslims against each other.

“The tragic event, aiming to divide followers of the Islamic schools of thought, is a well-calculated plot, having no result but serving the illegitimate interests of the Zionist regime of Israel,” read the message.

He condemned the dreadful attack and annoying of Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky and asked the counterpart to probe into the incident swiftly. He also called for freedom and treatment of Sheikh al-Zakzaky as well as punishment of agents behind the crime.

He voiced sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims and wished speedy recovery for those injured.
