Abia State Commissioner for Works, Hon.  Eziuche Ubani, says the Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration is committed to transforming Aba through provision of social amenities. He assured that government would take advantage of the dry season to complete on-going road projects in the commercial city and other parts of the state.

The two-time member of the House of Representatives gave the assurance while inspecting roads and drainages under construction in Aba.

He inspected the following roads: Ururuka, Obikabia, Ukaegbu, Ehere, Emelogu, Echefu, Umuola, Owerri Road, off Okigwe, Umuobiakwa -Itumkpa Crescent in Obingwa, drainage construction and expansion at Ururuka and Umuafor village.

The commissioner restated the determination of the present administration to transform Aba, the commercial hub of the state, by providing a network of accessible roads and addressing the perennial flooding in the city through construction of standard drainage system.

He was emphatic that government would not accept substandard job from contractors and stressed the need for them to abide by job specifications.

He said government would not hesitate to pull down any illegal structure which obstructs smooth construction of roads in Aba.

“Our plan is to provide all the markets in Aba motorable roads to enhance free flow of traffic and make doing business in the city easier and comfortable,” Ubani said.

The commissioner, however, frowned at the quality of work being done by the firm handling the reconstruction of at Ukaegbu Road and invited the Chief Executive Officer to report to his office

He enjoined Aba residents to cooperate with the contractors by removing all kinds of scraps from the road.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Elder Richard Nwala, disclosed that the present administration was currently constructing over 40 roads across the state, adding that the ministry was strictly monitoring the projects. In their responses, some of the contractors promised to deliver quality jobs.
