Twin suicide attacks believed to have been carried out by Boko Haram bombers in two Borno communities have killed no fewer than five people.

A security source said a male suicide bomber in Kimba village, south of Borno, attempted to enter the market and suddenly his bomb exploded prematurely, killing two people. A woman and her baby were also injured in the process.

“Today is Kimba market day and some suicide bombers attempted to invade the crowded market on Friday morning but were prevented by some vigilante members. However, the bomb-laden vest of the suicide bomber exploded prematurely and two people died at the scene,” the security said.

The blast occurred at about 9am yesterday in Kimba, some 55 kilometres to Biu, headquarters of Biu Local Government.

Also in Sabon Gari, few Kilometres to Kimba, another female suicide bomber detonated explosive devices at a security checkpoint and killed three other persons. “She was on queue at the checkpoint, unknown to them she was carrying IEDs She is a Boko Haram suicide bomber. She killed three other persons,” a police source said. (Saturday Sun)
