A suspected bomb blast shattered the peace yesterday at Yartabki village mosque near Funtua Local Government headquarters of President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state, Katsina.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted the Public Relations Officer of Katsina State Police Command, Aminu Sadiq, as confirming the incident.

“Sadiq said the suspect was arrested at the scene of the incident with two mobile cell phones and remnants of the suspected explosives also recovered,” NAN reported.

It quoted the Katsina Police spokesman as saying that the explosion did not hurt any person or cause severe damage to the mosque, adding that recovered items were taken to experts to ascertain what it was.

“Worshippers at Dariqa mosque in Yartabki village, about 15 kilometres from Funtua, were scared when they spotted a black polythene bag inside the mosque in the morning. They quickly informed the police about the suspicious items,” NAN said.

It disclosed that the suspected explosives detonated before the police arrived.

“It burnt the paint on the wall and the carpets,” the report said.
