Jos Magistrate slams N7, 000 fine on student over breach of trust

A Jos Magistrate, Mr Tijjani Zololo, on Friday imposed a fine of N7, 000 on a student, Domkat John, charged with breach of trust.

The court also ordered the student to provide a surety, living close to the court.

John, a student of Government Secondary School, Ring Road, Jos, appeared before Zololo on a charge of criminal breach of trust and conversion of money to personnel use.

The Prosecutor Cpl. Paul Bawa, said the offence was in breach of Sections 311 and 308 of the Penal Code.

Bawa said that John was arraigned for criminal breach of trust, misappropriation and cheating, contrary to Sections 311 and 308 of the Penal Code.

He said that the matter was reported by one Ayuba Makera at the Rantya Police Station in Jos South Local Government Area on November 5.

Makera told the police that he handed over N32, 000 sent into his account by his brother Danjuma Nuhu for the purchase of a 32-inch television to the accused, who converted it to his own use.

Bawa said that the accused confessed to the crime during investigation and pleaded guilty before the court and begged for leniency.

Zololo in his ruling imposed a fine of N7, 000 on the accused and ordered him to produce a surety that living close to the court. (NAN)
