Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and three of his governor friends and supporters, including Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Abia’s Okezie Ikpeazu and Seyi Makinde of Oyo are currently touring Europe even as the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has worsened.
Report has it that the governors departed for Madrid, Spain, on Friday night.
This is coming after Wike held a media chat where he attacked the PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, and insisted on his resignation from the party.
He also boasted that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar would not win the election if he and his allies leave the party.
“The concession we have made is that we won’t leave the party. Assuming we say we will leave the party, do you know the effect of that? Whether you like it or not, if I leave the party today, PDP cannot win. If we are leaving, we are leaving with all our people, and that is the truth of the matter.
“However, let this man go, the zone that is supposed to produce the chairman, produce the chairman and you don’t want to make the concession. What concession have they made? Do you think that today, we the five governors say we going to a party and there will still be PDP?”
A dependable source from Government House, Port Harcourt told Daily Trust that the governor and his team left Port Harcourt International Airport late Friday night.
He added that the governor of Enugu State will likely join the team in Madrid.
The source said the trip was aimed at looking at the current crisis involving the governors in the PDP.
Ayu had earlier reacted to the allegation against him by Wike, insisting that he did not collect 1 billion Naira from anyone as alleged.
