The Imo State Government has inspected the ongoing Avu Mechanic Village in Owerri West Local Government Area to ascertain the level of work done so far.
Inspecting the project on behalf of the state, Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI), Sir Jude Ejiogu stated that the reason for the project was to alleviate the sufferings of the people, thereby decongesting the rate of human influx in the capital city.
Sir Ejiogu, who accompanied by youths of Avu community, frowned at the manner in which previous administrations grabbed and seized people’s land without using it for any meaningful business. He argued that any land taken from people by any government should be developed or returned to the owners for the sake of peace and fair play.
The SGI therefore gave kudos to Governor Rochas Okorocha “for achieving what his predecessors could not realise in 12 years, even after using every government’s machinery to take people’s properties, describing their behaviour as not only for self aggrandizement but as economic waste.”
He appealed to the people of the host community to assist the State Government in its effort to realise her programmes geared towards uplifting the living standard of the people, while commending members of his committee for their collective ideas that have helped in no small measure with a view to achieving the mandate.
According to Sir Ejiogu, the project when completed would boost the economic well being of the state and as well, generates employment opportunity for the teeming youths within and outside the area.
