Marho Ehama is one of the ambitious and aspiring young actresses who had lofty ideas about the acting concern. The pretty lady had been dreaming to be like Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Ekehinde, Mercy Johnson and few top-rated actresses in Nollywood. However, she never knew that the road to stardom may not have been so rosy as believed. In this close up, Ehama stunned Showbiz Contributing Editor, IFECHI OKOH, when she maintained that their Director had to stop shooting midway for the purpose of sex. She further talked of her harrowing experiences on the same subject matter before she finally met the “Sheik of Nollywood,” Zeb Ejiro, the Godfather Director/ Producer who gave her succor and hope in the industry.
Why your choice for acting of all professions?
From childhood, I have always been admiring good actors/actresses anytime I saw them doing their thing on the screen. Since then too, they have been inspiring me to be like them. That has made me to be looking forward to them with eagerness to grab any golden chance at the slightest opening of joining the fray.
What practical steps did you take to make your dreams come true?
The first step I took was to seek out venues for auditions, which I faced the attendant challenges squarely. I thank God that I got a place at last where I was auditioned. However, I noticed that most so-called Producers/Directors were pretty interested in giving girls Waka pass roles after sleeping with them.
That notwithstanding, I smartly found my way. This rubbish, finally put me in a tempting situation, forcing me to find my way. But before then, it was revealed that they have slept with those who have no money, while they simply collect money from the well-to-do ones. It was at this time, the golden chance to attend the Wale Adenugas Film Institute provided itself. So, I did not waste time to grab it and enrolled. After my three months crash programme course, I went back to Nollywood, believing that with my certificate, I will be given prominent roles to play in any production. But alas, it was not so, as I still noticed the scandalous picture of sex-for-roles which I have always frowned at. In fact, I came face to face with such when a Director openly asked the technical crew to stop shooting for the sake of sex. I was shocked because it looked like a dream. Oh yes! It was actually the shame of Nollywood as it dawned on me that moment. Imagine! The so-called Director had his way shamelessly and the shooting continued. At another time, the same nonsense came up again, this time, it was my turn. But I shunned him and the production as another God-fearing male actor who supported my stance and I took the risk of our lives as we left the location after 12midnight, but were lucky to get transport to our destinations. After this rude shock, I continued trying my luck until I bumped into a Facebook advertisement which I tried out my luck with, where Zeb Ejiro called for talented actresses for auditions. I went and did my audition and was lucky. To my surprise, he just gave the role honestly without any strings attached like other corrupt Producers and Directors. Imagine! Since then, my disturbing opinion about Nollywood Directors and Producers are the same changed for good. Honestly!
