The Police Commissioner in Anambra, Mr. Hosea Karma, has urged Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) under his command to work hard as non-performing officers would be shown the way out.

Karma said this in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area on Monday, during his familiarisation tour of Police Divisions under his command.

He said that the state government had provided the command with the necessary equipment to rid the state of undesirable elements.

“The governor has his eyes on everything in a bid to protect lives and property of people in the state.

“The police must be on their toes to complement the efforts of the government by ensuring that crime is reduced to its barest minimum, if not eradicated.

“We must be up and doing to prove our worth in the society. Corruption is not allowed because you will be sacked, if caught.

“Your uniform is your license but if you abuse it, you have yourself to blame. Police officers that extort money or carry out other illegal activities should be ready to face dismissal.”

Karma reminded them that no police officer was allowed to join revenue agents to collect money in the state and warned that they should stay clear of civil cases or land matters in their own interest.

.He also reminded them that ‘bail is free’ because whoever was caught taking bribe, would be dismissed.

“Any DPO,” he warned, “who is not ready to do this work or feels that he is too big to keep his phones on, should leave the force.”

The CP commended the DPO in charge of the division, Mr. Musa Hassan, for his efforts toward crime prevention in the area and urged him not to relent.

“If I have my way, I will promote him to the next rank as a way of encouraging hard work but I do not have the power.”

In appreciation, the CP gave the DPO and his men N30,000 and commended the station also for keeping the environment clean.

At Fegge Police Station, the DPO, Mr. Rabiu Garba, listed some of the challenges confronting the station to include, inaccessibility of the road during rainy season due to poor drains.

Garba listed some of his achievements to include, the sinking of water borehole, construction of security post, donation of a 17 KVA generating set and fencing of part of the barracks. (NAN)
