The Bayelsa Police Command today said it is investigating the murder of a man alleged to be having an illicit affair with another man’s wife.
Mr Raphael Solomon, 53, on Tuesday allegedly killed a man suspected to be his wife’s lover when he caught them ‘pants down’ in Aduku Community of Sagbama LGA, Bayelsa.
Mr Astimin Butswat, ASP Spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, who confirmed the incident, said that the adulterers were caught in the act at a cassava processing plant.
Butswat said: “On October 13, 2015, at about 2030hrs, one Raphael Solomon, 53 years, shot and killed one Preye Bernard, with a locally made pistol in Aduku Community, Sagbama LGA, Bayelsa.
“A team of crack detectives, led by the DPO Sagbama swung into action and arrested the suspect on the 14th October, 2015, at about 1300hrs, in Gudugudu camp in Odoni, Sagbama LGA.
“The suspect alleged that the deceased was having an illicit affair with his wife, one Joy Godwin. Investigation is ongoing.”
Community sources said that the deceased, aged 28, was the owner of the cassava processing plant used by the couple to process their produce.
It was gathered that the angry husband, who had been informed of the illicit affair between his wife and Preye Bernard, trailed the duo to the plant and caught them naked, making love.
A community source said: “The angry husband was known to be a successful cassava farmer in Odi and one that has made name for himself in the business of cassava farming and garri processing.
“He is involved in the business with his wife. We only heared that he caught the wife sleeping with another man and shot him dead.”
