Gunmen on kidnap spree in Imo; abduct 2 APC chieftains, 3 others; kill mechanic

Gunmen went on a rampage in Imo on Friday, abducting two All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains at different locations in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area.

An artisan, Valentine Enwerem, is also reported to have been shot dead at the Orji Mechanic village by gunmen, who abducted three occupants of the vehicle he was driving.

According to a colleague of the deceased, who narrated the incident, “they said they didn’t come for him and asked him to cooperate with them. They later shot him dead and zoomed towards the Okigwe end of the road after kidnapping the people in the vehicle.”

The two APC chieftains taken were abducted at two locations in the Isiala Mbano.

While Chief Godson Obijiaku was kidnapped at his community in Amauzairi, another politician who is also a businessman from Ikeduru LGA, popularly known as ‘Ability’, was kidnapped at a pharmaceutical shop at Amaraku.

A source said, “Chief Obijiaku, an aspirant for the upcoming LGA Chairmanship election, has been kidnapped. As they approached Amaraku, we saw a Tundra vehicle parked in front of a pharmaceutical shop, they stopped, went there and kidnapped Chief Ability and released multiple gunshots as they made their way out of the environment.”

The spokesperson for the police in the state, Micheal Abattam, could not be reached by telephone when contacted to comment on the incident. (Daily Sun)
