Afrobeats singer Femi Kuti has denied referring to the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s supporters (the Obidients) as ‘zombies.’

Kuti refuted the claim after a platform published a report with the headline: “Femi Kuti says Obidients are zombies.”

The platform claimed the eldest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti ‘berated Obi’s supporters also known as “Obidients,” as zombies’.

It claimed Kuti made the comments during a performance at the Shrine Thursday night in Lagos, wondering why Mr Obi’s popularity has grown rapidly in recent months.

“You know what obedience means? Stand up, sit down, sit there – zombie. How can you be Obidient in this chaos? I am not Obidient. Tell me, at 60, why am I Obidient? You said I should be Obidient, sit down, be peaceful,” he said. “Are you all okay in this country?”Kuti was quoted to have said.

Zombie was the title of a studio album released in 1976 by his late father, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, when he derided Nigerian soldiers as a bunch of robotic and senseless individuals.

Reacting, Femi Kuti tagged the platform ‘liars,’ wondering why they would willfully choose to ‘take his words out of context.”

“You are such liars. Of what benefit is it to the people when you take my words out of context like this? I said I’m too angry at my age to be obedient. Expressing I do not like the ‘term’ But if Peter Obi wins and actually changes the country better for all of us,” he tweeted.   (The Nation)
