Immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, today scaled a major hurdle on his path to becpming a minister when the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Ethics and Privileges suspended consideration of the petition against his ministerial nomination.
The committee sad it took the decision because the matter is being contested in court, pointing out that the ruling is in accordance with the rules of the Senate.
The petition written by a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Integrity Group based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, was last week submitted to the Senate by Senators from Rivers State.
Presenting the petition on the floor of the Senate on October 7, Senator George Sekibo informed the Senate that the petition bordered principally on corruption and criminal breach of trust levelled against Mr Amaechi.
The Senate President referred the petition to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges for consideration.
