Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State says he would carry all his supporters and challengers along when he becomes a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023.

Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Mr Chooks Oko, made the commitment while featuring on TVC Breakfast Political Programme on Monday.

Oko clarified that Engineer Umahi emerged victorious in the re-run held on Sunday, having beaten four others, including Mrs Ann Agom-Eze by 250 votes.

He maintained that the rerun became expedient owing to directive of the Federal High Court.

“What the Court said is go back and conduct a fresh Primary because there were a lot of issues about the people who had participated in the earlier Primary, including Mrs. Agom-Eze herself.

“A lot of issues; a lot of facts were hidden from the Court, if not, the Court should have gone ahead to direct INEC to shortlist Governor Umahi because he was duly elected in a valid party primary.

“Governor Umahi is a very large-hearted man.  APC members are very large-hearted people. There was never a serious problem in the first place, what was happening was a family squabble which is natural and a question of who is right, who is wrong and such things does not really generate the kind of bad blood that you are envisaging.

“Governor Umahi will carry everybody along as he has been doing and definitely including our sister Ann, she will be part of the family and no problems at all.”

The Special Assistant insisted that Governor Umahi’s latest victory was a manifestation of the people’s love for him for his massive infrastructural transformation of Ebonyi State.

“You need to come to Ebonyi State to see what one man did in so short a time and you begin to wonder if he is allowed to do that at the Federal level, what would have happened, looking at a scenario of a genuine performer being asked by his people to represent them.

“You needed to be there yesterday, everything went according to the law and it was an expression of love by the people, it was even raining and most of the people were dancing in the rain.

“What we saw were just a people appreciating the son they love so much and they want him to represent them.”
