FRSC assures adequate traffic management during HID Awolowo’s burial rites

Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, has assured the Awolowo family that the Corps is determined to provide adequate traffic management during the burial rites of late Mrs HID Awolowo, the wife of the late Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo who died recently.

According to Bisi Kazeem, Head, Media Relations and Strategy, Oyeyemi disclosed this when he led a group of senior officers of the FRSC to the Ikenne home of the Awolowo family to commiserate with them. While extolling the virtues of the late matriarch, the Corps Marshal described her as an exemplary woman who lived in service of God and humanity, stressing that FRSC will provide adequate traffic management during her burial rites to make the occasion hitch-free.

“We are here to commiserate with the family on the painful exit of late matriarch, and to specially express our commitment to providing adequate traffic management during the burial rites to make the occasion hitch-free,” he stated.

“Mama left behind a legacy of service to humanity, and all Nigerians that came across her. We are here to assure the family of the commitment of the FRSC to offering the necessary traffic management during the burial rites, not as a favour to the family, but as a demonstration of our social responsibility role in furtherance of our statutory functions of making the roads crash and obstruction-free for all,” Oyeyemi stated.

Responding on behalf of the family, Mrs Tola Oyediran, the eldest daughter of late Mrs HID Awolowo, thanked the Corps Marshal and members of his entourage for the visit. While appreciating the FRSC for the solidarity to the family, Mrs Oyediran assured the Corps Marshal of the cooperation of the family with the FRSC and other security agencies in planning the event to make people’s movement free during the period.

As part of the visit, the Corps Marshal was at the FRSC Road Side Clinic/Emergency Centre Sagamu, to assess the level of facilities available at the centre and its capacity to cope with emergency situations along the corridor. Conducting him round, the centre, the Unit Commander, Abdullahi Mohammed assured the Corps Marshal of the preparedness of the command to attend to victims of traffic emergencies, pointing out that the command is receiving support from relevant non-governmental organisations on how to expand the facilities at the centre.

The Corps Marshal was accompanied on the visit by the Zonal Commanding officer of Zone 2 Lagos, the Head of the National Uniform Licensing System and the Sector Commander of Ogun state as well as some unit commanders of the component commands including that of the Lagos Airport.
