Trade: FG calls for standard packaging of made-in-Nigeria products

The federal government on Monday called on industrialists and investors to evolve a quality and standard way of packaging Nigerian products for acceptability in the international market.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Mrs. Bolashade Yemi-osan made the call at the opening ceremony of United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) four-Day Media Workshop with the theme: ‘Concept of Quality in Nigeria,’ held in Minna.

“Nigerians need to have a rethink towards how best to package whatever product we are producing for exportation.”

She said there was need for Nigeria to rise to the challenge to the global competition to quality and standard and for acceptance and economic development.

Represented by the ministry’s Director of Transformation, Mr. Jimoh Lawal, the permanent secretary said Nigeria had everything to compete with nations across the globe on issues of trade.

Earlier, the UNIDO Representative of Nigeria, Dr. David Tommy, said the workshop was part of the organisation's way of promoting the concept of quality in all the developing nations across the globe.

Tommy said the onus was on professional journalists to promote the drive toward production of qualitative products that would stimulate economic growth and the development of such nations.

Represented by Mr. Charles Malata, UNIDO Chief Technical Adviser, Nigeria Quality Infrastructure Projects, called on the media to help in sensitising the public on the need to for industrialists to emphasise more on quality for international acceptance.

Also, Mr. Ima Niboro, the Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), commended UNIDO for organising the workshop, which he described as ‘very timely.’

Niboro pledged the agency’s readiness to partner UNIDO to achieve the desired goal for the workshop and the promote economic growth and development in Nigeria. (NAN)
