The Emir of Keffi, Alhaji Muhammadu Chindo-Yamusa, has called on Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari in fighting insurgency and other security challenges bedeviling the country.

Chindo-Yamusa made the call on Thursday while addressing Muslims during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration in Keffi, Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa.

He also said there was need for Muslims to join the effort of the president to put an end to the incessant bombings and other security challenges in some parts of the country.

Chindo-Yamusa said tackling the challenges was important in promoting peace and national development.

“As a traditional ruler, my role is to preach peace and unity and to advise my subjects and other Nigerians to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliations.

“No nation or society can develop in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion; the insurgency and other security challenges facing some parts of the country have affected both our lives and the socio-economic development of the country negatively.

“Without peace no meaningful development can be achieved in any society, peace is priceless and with it development can take place.

“There is the need for the diverse ethnic, political and religious groups to embrace peace.

“I want to call on you, all of us, and other Nigerians to join hands and support President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts so as to end the incessant insurgency and other security vices bedevilling the country.”

He said security should not be seen as the responsibility of the government alone but a collective effort through reporting suspicious movements of any person or group, exposing criminals in the society to the appropriate authority and supporting security policies.

The monarch specifically called on Muslims to be vigilant and security conscious at all times in the interest of peace.

He congratulated Muslims on the Sallah celebration and called on them to ensure a peaceful festival.

Earlier, the Deputy Chief Imam of Keffi Central Mosque, Alhaji Shuaibu Mahmond, had charged Muslims to adhere strictly to the teachings of the Holy Quran in the interest of peace and national development.

The cleric, who enjoined Muslims to show love and be just at all times, also called on Nigerians to live in peace and tolerate one another. (NAN)
