Nigeria’s Eyioma Uwazurike is making waves in American Football, recently catching the attention Denver Broncos talent scouts who selected the Iowa State University student with 116th-overall pick.

Uwazurike’s selection saw the Broncos adding depth to their defensive line early on Day 3 of the 2022 (National Football League (NFL) Draft.

A four-year starter at Iowa State, Uwazurike was twice an honorable mention All-Big 12 player and was a first-team All-Big 12 player in 2021. During his final season, he recorded 12 tackles for loss and nine sacks.

“I have the right amount of strength, speed and quickness that I can use all three of them really well,” Uwazurike said. “I’m not just a one-trick pony when it comes to pass rushing. I have a variety of different things I can use, so I think that’s what helps my pass rush a lot.”

Uwazurike recorded 34.5 career tackles for loss and 15 career sacks.

“Just adding size to the room,” Assistant GM Darren Mougey told “Another big, talented kid. It’s hard to find guys with that size. Another guy we’ve been watching. I’ve been watching that kid for two or three years. Talented kid, a lot of size. He’s going to bring size to the room, [which is] something we needed.”

His 34.5 tackles for loss rank third in school history, and he started every game over the last three seasons. (Adapted from a report by
