Confusion trails Edo council polls

A flop! A flop!! It was total confusion today as the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) failed woefully to successfully conduct the local government elections in the South-South state yesterday.

The election, which saw the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) making spirited efforts to upstage the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) turned out to be a disaster as it was marred by irregularities.

The election did not hold in Ikpobha Okha and Oredo local government areas while in the rest of the state where it held, it was a tale of woes and complaints over non-availability of electoral materials, late commencement of the exercise and lack of transparency in the process.

As at the time of this report, EDSIEC had come under pressure from PDP and the Labour Party to cancel the exercise and hold a fresh one on Thursday, when the commission intends to hold the pols in Ikpobha Okha and Oredo.

As at late last night, News Express was keeping vigil at EDSIEC’s office for developments even as the commission was expected by ACN to announce the results in places where the exercise took place.
