Egypt is threatening Nigeria’s qualification for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for Gabon.
The Pharaohs showed devastating class on Sunday, trouncing hosts Chad 5-1 in Ndjamena to strengthen their hold on the top spot in Group G.
Zamalek’s Bassem Morsy scored a hat trick for the Pharaohs as Mohamed Salah and Mahmoud ‘Kahraba’ Abdel-Moneim each added while Chad scored their lone goal through Nadjim Haroun.
The seven-time champions now have six points ahead of Nigeria with four, Tanzania with a solo
point and Chad yet to pick a point.
Things have indeed changed for Nigeria. Qualifying for AFCON used to be taken for granted by Nigeria, but not anymore.
After having failed to qualify for two of the last three editions of the Nations Cup, Nigeria is learning to see Nations Cup qualification as tough a battle as it saw qualifying for the FIFA World Cup.
