Eko Electricity Company calls for stringent measures against vandalism

The Chief Executive Officer, Eko Electricity Distribution Plc, Mr. Oladele Amuda has called for stringent measures against vandalism of electricity equipment in the country.

Amuda told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday that the existing laws were too light for offenders of electricity equipment vandals.

He said that vandalism of electricity equipment was a serious act of economic sabotage that should attract stiffer penalty.

Amuda said that the company had spent so much money to replace vandalised equipment.

“Within the last two years after taking over this distribution company, we have spent close to N20billion on infrastructural development as well as system upgrade and reinforcement.

“After spending huge amount of money on power improvement, it will be unpatriotic of anyone to be vandalising the newly acquired equipment.

“Consumers should report anybody who is not our staff found tampering with the company’s installations.”

The chief executive officer said that continuous vandalism of power equipment had contributed to epileptic power supply within the zone.

He called on consumers to be vigilant and report any case of vandalism to the police.

Amuda appealed to security agencies, community development authorities’ chairmen and residents to protect Eko Electricity Distribution Plc facilities in their areas. (NAN)
