The Oyo State Police Command has called on media practitioners within the state to shun fake news in the interest of nation building and play their part in promoting the unity of Nigeria as well as setting agenda that will help in the development of the country rather than publishing stories that can lead to chaos.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ngozi Onadeko, made the call while receiving the leadership of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo state chapter, in her office on Tuesday, adding that the achievement recorded so far in the command, only became possible because she had hardworking officers who are up to the task.
She promised that officer in the command will continue to perform their duties professionally and as expected of them, assuring the public of the command's commitment to the safety of lives and property.
While speaking, the NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Jadesola Ajibola, stated that the command had been fighting Gender Based Violence and had been working assiduously through collaboration with the public, to restore peace to the state under the leadership of CP Onadeko.
She noted that the command has been of good conduct and professional in its relations with people in the state, emphasising that some of the cases NAWOJ has been following are obvious proof that the police under the leadership of the first female Commissioner of Police remains outstanding.
The NAWOJ Chairperson assured the command of the association's collaboration inn the areas of support for the widows of police officers, professional reportage and investigative journalism, reiterating that widows in the command will benefit from some of the programs of NAWOJ on ways to make lives more meaningful for them.
