Traders in old spare parts market in Oba, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state have called on the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano to come to their aid by reconstructing the major roads leading to the market.

Speaking at the occasion of the burial ceremony of 160 traders of the market that died 2002-2015, the chairman of the market, Chief Emma Obiagwu, said that the market is the largest and most populated in the West African sub-region and has equally thrown its support to the state government.

He stressed that they need the reconstruction of the roads not only to improve their trading activities but also to enhance their contribution to the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the State.

Obiagwu named the roads that need attention to include Bank road, Chiokwe road and market garage roads.

The chairman urged the governor to also construct toilets for them in the market saying that same has been taken off in other markets in the state.

He however hailed the governor for the giant steps he had taken to improve trade and commerce in the state by democratising market unions in most markets since he assumed office as well as provision of solar energy.

He however explained that the funeral service of their departed members was put in place to formally bid them a farewell to the great beyond in accordance with their constitution.

The funeral service was moderated by Rev. Sunday Ilo of Anglican Communion, Rev. Father Vincent Agbatuo of Catholic Church and Pastor Joseph Egbogota, whose messages centred on the need for the traders to live godly life so that they can meet with their creator when they finish their sojourn on earth.

Pastor Egbogota urged those who are still in the process of learning trade to remain faithful and honest to their masters and resist the temptation of stealing their masters’ money.

He equally asked the masters to settle their servants when they finish the number of years they have agreed and not empl0y flimsy excuses to deprive the young people of starting the future in good footing.

Highlight of the occasion were solidarity visits by friends and well-wishers of the market to sympathise with them including the Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Mr. Obi Edemobi, whose area of leadership covers the area where the market exists.
