Members of the Maritime Union Workers of Nigeria have in their numbers besieged the main entrance of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in Marina, Lagos Island, chanting solidarity songs and brandishing placards denouncing the management of NPA as thieves.
In an interview, the protesters echoed their grievances in chorus with utmost vigour.
One of their workers, who preferred to speak on the grounds of anonymity, said the junior workers of Longshore, Mantra Marine, Blue Ocean and Excellent Dominion are being owed salaries and other entitlements in the past eight months.
He said that their grievances became worsened by the publication of Punch Newspaper of Wednesday, August 12, 2015, where the management of NPA in collaboration with Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) claimed to have paid the eight months outstanding salaries.
“This is a flamboyant lie. We want the government to know it, and arise to help us out.”
