The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, on Thursday urged traditional rulers in the state to be “the eyes and ears” of security agencies in the fight against crime.
Owoseni made the appeal when he met with the royal fathers at the Government House to brief them of his programme and his expectations.
He said the monarchs occupy a very important position in the society since they were in better position to know and get information about individuals and their activities.
The CP said they should also assist in monitoring all persons and groups in their domains.
Owoseni assured them of the command's determination to ensure adequate security in all parts of the state, adding that the command was working out new strategies on how best to make the state crime-free.
He also urged them to ensure that they carry out proper investigation on prospective candidates who want to join the force before signing any document for them.
This, he said, would check the intake of wrong characters into the force and help the authorities to check crimes.
The Oba of Lagos and Chairman, Council of Obas and Chiefs in Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, who chaired the meeting, urged the commissioner to ensure tight security in Lagos.
Akiolu also urged the commissioner to check the criminals who now use the water ways to operate and assured him of the royal father’s support. (NAN)
