As leadership crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State deepens, Foundation Legacy Members of the party have send save our soul (SOS) to President Muhammadu Buhari over alleged plans to chase them away after nurturing the party for years.
This is coming amid the endless battle of relevance between two power blocs in the party, especially the old members and the new entrants, led by former Senate President, Ken Nnamani.
News Express gathered that the issue of zoning has also remained a major unresolved issue in the party.
The position of governorship candidate of the party was zoned to Enugu North in 2019 and has now been zoned to Enugu East for the 2023 elections.
The State Chairmanship of the party, zoned to Enugu East during the last congress of the party, has been zoned to Enugu West ahead of the state congress.
It is the same with other State Working Committee positions.
The Foundation members of the party in the State, including the State Caretaker Committee chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye, the DG, Voice of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, former guber candidate of the party, Barr. Okey Ezea, among others, are all on the verge of being pushed aside by the new entrants.
Speaking to journalists in Enugu on Sunday, after their zoom meeting, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in the State, Mrs Kate Ofor, said that the part resolved to call on President Muhammadu Buhari, to save them from the hands of Nnanami and co “who want to shut out foundation legacy members in Enugu State.”
“Foundation members of APC in Enugu State have gradually improved the electoral fortunes of our great party from 2015 to 2019 general elections.
“We need to improve more, especially with registration of new members. However, we wish to appeal that the flagrant breach of Article 20 of the APC Constitution by Senator Ken Nnamani’s imposition called consensus be urgently addressed before the October 2, 2021 State Congress.
“On behalf of the party, our core resolution in the meeting is to call on Mr President who is the leader of our great party to save our soul.
“Our understanding is that Senator Ken Nnamani and Co’s plan is to shut out APC foundation legacy members in Enugu State.”
Mrs Ofor added that “His Excellency, M.M. Buni as a foundation legacy member knows how we toiled, sweated and sacrificed to build the brand, APC while Nnamani and Co were in PDP’s Comfort Zone. We also need Buni’s deft reconciliation tactics. Nnamani and Co did not bring anything to the table, neither electoral value, nor people, nor money.”
Asked about the new Reconciliation Committee headed by Senator Adamu Abdullahi? Mrs Ofor shouted: “We have nothing against Distinguished Senator Adamu, but there is a big elephant in the Committee, Senator Nnamani’s handgun-surrogate is posted there. He is His Excellency, Sullivan Chime a product of imposition. He was imposed as a governor by Distinguished Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, so for him, imposition is consensus.”
“Secondly, we resolved for the purposes of the State Congress to clarify the position we took in June after the Distinguished Senator Jonathan Zwingina led Registration and Revalidation Panel that: all party offices zoned to the East Senatorial District are now zoned to West Senatorial District and all party offices zoned to the West are now zoned to the North Senatorial District and all those zoned to North are now zoned to East Senatorial District.”
