President Muhammadu Buhari this afternoon replaced the country’s Security Chiefs – hours after he dismissed their predecessors.
The new one appointees are Major-General Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin, Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General T.Y. Buratai, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, Chief of Naval Staff; Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff; Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan, Chief of Defence Intelligence; and Major-General Babagana Monguno (rtd.), National Security Adviser.
President Buhari had earlier in the day wielded the big stick, relieving the Service Chiefs and National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki, (retd.), of their duties.
All the Service Chiefs were affected, namely, Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh, Chief of Naval Staff Usman Jibrin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-General Kenneth Minimah; and Chief of Air Staff Adesola Amosu.
The dismissal of the security chiefs is not unconnected with the worsening Boko Haram terrorism since Buhari, who vowed to tame the monster, was sworn-in on May 29.
