Assailants believed to be Boko Haram members have invaded Debiro village in Hawul local council in Borno State, shooting and slitting the guts of defenceless villagers.

Witnesses say 20 people were killed in the attack.

The assailants also set houses ablaze.

Locals say security personnel were not on ground to repel the bandits who unleashed mayhem unchallenged.

Hawul, which borders neighbouring Adamawa State, is over 200 kilometers away from Maiduguri.
