The Catholic Church now has a new Pope. White smoke has begun emerging from the Sistine Chapel chimney in the ceiling of the Vatican, indicating that a successor has emerged for Benedict XVI, who resigned effective February 28.
The new leader of the Catholic Church will be announced within the hour.
He emerged after four rounds of voting in the conclave that started yesterday.
Among the candidates was Nigeria’s Cardinal John Onaiyekan, who is aged below 80 – a requirement for voting in the Conclave.
