The Ebonyi state government has distributed a total of 100 motorcycles to all the security agencies in the state.

The donation followed the recent insecurity challenges in some parts of the state to aid the process of restoring peace in the hinterlands.

The event which took place at the old government house, Abakaliki and has in attendance senior police officers and other security agencies.

Speaking during the presentation of the bikes, Governor David Umahi, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Internal Security, Border Peace and Conflict Resolutions, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, said the gesture was to respond to the appeal by security agencies in the state.

"It is in fulfilment of the promise the state government made to the security agencies, you know this Effium and Ezza Effium crisis, there are too many hinterlands that vehicles cannot access and as such, the security agencies made appeal to the governor of the state to procure some motorcycles for them, we procured 100 pieces of the motorcycles", he said.

A breakdown of the distribution showed that the police received 30 motorcycles,

20 pieces for the army and 50 pieces for the state owned neighborhood watch vigilantee group.

On the Security situation in Effium, Chief Stanley Emegha, said with the deployment of troops to the crisis area as well as the continual visits by the state deputy governor and other security chiefs, peace has returned to the area.

“For weeks now and with the deployment of the troops, the area has been calmed, and the deputy governor have been visiting there on two days basis, with me and other security chiefs and as such, we have relative peace there for now,” he said.
