Delta Assembly approves Okowa’s request for Special Advisers

The Delta State House of Assembly yesterday approved request by the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for confirmation of persons for appointment as Special Advisers.

Governor Okowa in a letter to the House and read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya, said the request was in line with the provisions of section 196, subsections one to three of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

The governor stated in the letter that he intended to appoint one Senior Political Adviser, one Political Adviser and fifteen Special Advisers to assist him in driving the administration of the state.

Senator Okowa said the request was part of strategies by his administration to actualise the agenda of prosperity for all Deltans, soliciting the support of the house for consideration and approval of the request by way of resolution.

The request was approved following the unanimous adoption of a motion to that effect by the majority leader, Hon Monday Igbuya.

Meantime, the House has confirmed the nominee for appointment as Auditor-General, Local Govt, Mr Abel Esievo from Ethiope East local govt area of the state.

The confirmation followed a motion to that effect by the majority leader, Hon Monday Igbuya after the successful screening of the nominee now Auditor-General, Local Govt designate during Wednesday plenary of the House.

The House, however, differed without any explanation the screening and confirmation of the nominee for appointment as the Auditor-General, State, Mrs Mary Brown-Njokanma.

The two names were forwarded by the former Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, last week, three days to the end of his tenure.

The House will today hold the valedictory session of the fifth assembly.

The speaker, who announced this during yesterday’s plenary, invited the public to be part of it.
