Legendary composer, guitarist and performer extraordinaire, Sir Victor Efosa Uwaifo, turned 80 on Monday, March 1, 2021.

One of Nigeria’s foremost musicians and chairman of the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), Tony Okoroji, took out time to celebrate the Edo State-born musical Iroko.

In a statement issued on Monday and made available to Maggie’s Blog, Okoroji said the birthday celebration is a week long, to climax with the launching of a 600-page biography of the “Guitar Boy” in Benin City on Saturday.

The occasion, according to Okoroji, will also feature the celebrant being decorated with the “Grand Copyright Medal of Honour”, the first time anyone, anywhere has been decorated with such a medal.

“There will never be another Victor Uwaifo. The story of the development of Nigerian popular music will never be fully told without the repeated mention of Prof Victor Efosa Uwaifo,” said Okoroji.
