The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called for an end to all subsisting litigation by different groups and individuals seeking to stop the inauguration of President elect General Muhammadu Buhari.

HURIWA said it was tantamount to chasing shadows and wasting the precious time of the courts for frivolous politically motivated cases to linger against the incoming President on the nebulous and politically charged perception that the President elect has no Secondary school certificate.

Conversely, the President-elect has been cautioned to distance himself from any pressures whether covertly or overtly from some subterranean quarters concerning the possibility of politically alienating the Igbo speaking people from the mainstream of the Federal Government for whatever reason, particularly for the perception that the President elect won only a fraction of votes from the South East zone at the March 28th 2015 Presidential election.

In a statement by the National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media affairs Director Miss Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA called for concerted effort by all stakeholders in the Nigerian democracy project including members of organised civil society community to provide quality support to the incoming administration but also be ready to offer quality and constructive ideas on the best way to change the economic well being of Millions of Nigerians from the current parlours and extremely excruciating condition to a radically improved situation.

HURIWA said that the proactive roles of organised civil society community have more than ever before become highly imperative so as to properly make the Nigerian people the owners of the democracy project.

Specifically, a group, Incorporated Trustees of Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative, had reportedly dragged the Nigerian Chief Justice to the Federal High Court, Abuja Division seeking an injunction to stop the official solemn swearing in of the President elect on Friday May 29th 2015 on the ground that General Buhari allegedly committed perjury by failing to disclose that he has no valid Secondary school certificate. HURIWA said all vexatious litigation against President elect must end now without further waste of time.

But HURIWA urged the plaintiff to end “this judicial misadventures and provide meaningful and constructive support for the incoming administration to move Nigeria to higher levels, in terms of advancement of the National economy through a well coordinated approach to waging anti graft war and counter terrorism battles.”

Similarly, the group wants all pending suits against Major General Muhammadu Buhari the incoming Nigerian President to be withdrawn forthwith because of the collective desire of Nigerians to ultimately begin the massive economic reconstruction of Nigeria and to implement a national programme of reconciliation and peace amongst various ethnic nationalities.

“There is a national momentum demanding a united front by all and sundry to speed up the national economic reconstruction of Nigeria and provide constructive and meaningful livelihoods for millions of extremely impoverished Nigerians.

"There is the urgent need for a national state of economic emergency to be declared to enable the Nigerian state to rebuild the decadent infrastructures in the areas of health, education and road. This is no time for frivolous court cases against the incoming President who has the mandate of most Nigerians to rescue this nation from the impending dooms,” says HURIWA.

On the need to accord all constitutional rights to all segments of the society including the Igbo speaking nationality, HURIWA said it’s imperative that all legal functions and responsibilities meant to be assigned to experts of South East origin in the spirit of Federal Character and fundamental human rights must be complied with because the moment Muhammadu Buhari got the certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission he became the President-elect of all Nigerians and no longer the candidate of any political platforms.

HURIWA condemned the lopsided plots to install leadership of the next National Assembly to the total exclusion of the representatives of the South East of Nigeria.
