The Abia State Transition Planning Committee (TPC) has said that tomorrow’s inauguration of the new government of Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu in Abia State will hold at the ultra-modern International Conference Centre (ICC) in Umuahia, the state capital.
The TPC chairman, Prof. Mkpa Agu Mkpa, announced this to newsmen in Umuahia on Tuesday while unveiling programmes lined up for the day.
The 24-member TPC was charged to plan a smooth transition of power from the outgoing administration of Governor Theodre Orji to the incoming government of Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu and also to articulate all necessary information, reflecting the present state of affairs in the state as would help the incoming administration master the terrain and chart a course for the future of Abia. The committee was also saddled with the task of organising the May 29 inauguration activities.
“That committee has met about nine times and we have largely broken the backbone of this assignment. We are expecting to articulate from the ministries and agencies, what they have done in the last couple of years in the T.A.Orji-led administration. We are packaging that so that the T.A.Orji administration would safely hand over come May 29,” Mkpa said.
He also said that the committee’s report would equally give details of the financial position of the state.
According to him, the two-part events lined up for the day include the swearing in ceremony of Dr. Ikpeazu an his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, scheduled to hold at the ICC by 10 am, after which the rest of the activities would shift to the Umuahia Township Stadium.
A one-hour interdenominational service to be anchored by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Abia state branch, would kick-off proceedings and would be followed by the transition activities proper.
Mkpa, who is also the Secretary to Abia State Government (SSG), said further that there will be an inspection of a guard of honour, followed by speeches, including a valedictory speech by the outgoing governor and an acceptance speech by the incoming governor.
“We hope that he (Ikpeazu) would unveil his plans for moving Abia to the promised land of economic properity, political stability and social equality during his acceptance speech. We would expect to hear his blueprint on that day,” Mkpa added.
The committee said the every person resident in Abia, including members of the opposition political parties, are invited to the inauguration ceremonies.
“We assure everybody that it is going to be a glorious day, it is going to be a glorious exit for a man who has done marvelously well,” the TPC chairman said.
