The Governor Theodore Orji-led out-going administration in Abia has unveiled its parting gift for Abians with the award of several contracts to boost infrastructural development in the state.
The award of contracts which would gulp billions of naira was announced by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr. ACB Agbazuere, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held Friday.
Agbazuere listed the projects which the EXCO approved the award of their contracts to include the expansion of Ozuakoli Road, up to Nkwoegwu and Amoji Junction, the supply of computers, printers and office software for the new workers’ secretariat and the refurbished Nnamdi Azikiwe Secretariat; contract for the provision of stone base on the Ozu Abam-Ndi Okereke Road in Arochukwu Local Government Area as well as the provision of Abia Developmental and Engineering Consultancy Services.
Other contracts awarded by the government, according to the commissioner, are the construction of the International Conference Centre road, the construction of Bende-Idima Abam Road in Arochukwu LGA, the 12km Amawom-Nkalunta-Ibere Cocoa Road in Ikwuano LGA as well as the rehabilitation of Old Gariki Street in Umuahia. The projects, Agbazuere explained, were captured in the 2015 Budget.
The commissioner reiterated the determination of the Abia State Government to realise the auto market in Aba while it requested that land be provided in Aba and Umuahia for the building of modern abattoirs. He said that the projects would better the lot of the people and move the state forward.
Agbazuere also disclosed that EXCO applauded Chief Orji for excelling in governance while the governor used the opportunity to thank Abians for their support which gave victory to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and produced Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu as Governor-elect.
