Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, yesterday emerged chairman of Northern State Governors’ Forum.
At the end of the meeting presided over by Niger State Governor and outgoing Chairman of the forum, Babangida Aliyu, the deputy governor and governor-elect of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, was also elected as the vice chairman of the forum.
Shettima in his acceptance speech promised to run the forum as one family to confront frontally the challenges facing the region.
Governor Aliyu, in his farewell remarks, said every effort would be made to address the animosity among members of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum.
Governor Aliyu said: “The goal is to mediate and unite the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) that has been fragmented in the past few years.”
Present at the meeting were governors of Gombe, Adamawa, Kaduna, Niger; Benue, Kwara, Borno, Zamfara, Bauchi, Kebbi, Kano Governor-elect and Kogi State deputy governor.
