Nigerian soulful singer, Timi Dakolo has remained the toast of spouses who want to get wedded around the country.
His hit tune “Iyawo mi” has made him the most sought after artiste at wedding parties.
Last weekend, an Abuja based couple, Ogechi and Nwachukwu Eke wanted the 40 years old singer from Bayelsa State born in Ghana to perform at their wedding.
The entertainer who emerged winner of the inaugural season of Idols West Africa in 2007 was fully booked and he told the couple so, but they would not take any excuse from him.
What he did? He turned himself a wedding gift to the couple that morning before the wedding proper. How? Hear the father of three:
“So I got a call for a wedding in Abuja for a lady that just wanted me as her only wedding gift. Unfortunately I had committed to some other gig and the husband and other people kept calling.
“At some point, we had to come to an agreement, because they refused to give up. I mean the calls kept coming with the line ‘have you changed your mind?’
“So we had to come up with a plan. Let’s wake her up and make her wish come true. Thanks to her colleagues (Planning committee ). Happy married life to Ogechi and Nwachukwu Eke.”
And that was how Busola’s husband stormed the young couple’s home early in the morning to wake them up, sang the popular tune “Iyawo mi” to them and dashed back to keep his other engagements.
And were the “about to wed” surprised at the unusual wedding gift ? That would be an understatement.
