As the campaign for a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction in 2023 hots up, seasoned lawyer, politician and administrator, Senator Emma Nwaka, has appealed to Delta and Rivers Igbos not to be offended by the growing thinking that the position should be zoned to the South-East.

He made the appeal following the controversy stirred by the seminal lecture on “Who are the Real Igbo?” delivered by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, at the just concluded World Igbo Summit at Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State.

According to Nwaka in statement issued on Thursday, December 24, “To be sure, Senator Anyim expressed no intention to exclude Delta and Rivers Igbos as our kith and kin. However, the rotation of the Presidency of Nigeria is based on the six regional structure of the country and not on ethnic nationality. That being the case, all we are saying is that  it is the turn of Ndi Igbo of the South East region made up of Abia, Anambra,  Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states to produce the next President of Nigeria.

“Of course, we shall count on the support of our brothers and sisters from the neighbouring states, including that of every Nigerian of voting age that the ends of equity and justice may be served.”
