Orji inaugurates Abia Transition Committee

Governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji yesterday inaugurated a 15-man committee that would work out modalities for a smooth transition of power to the incoming government that will assume office on May 29, 2015.

Among other things, the committee is expected to collect and distil handover notes from government, ministries and departments and propose the nature of the new government to enable it avoid obstacles that impede performance.

Inaugurating the committee inside the Executive Chambers, Government House, Umuahia, Orji charged the committee to ensure that its transition plans and programmes were thorough, accurate smooth and comprehensive.

The out-going governor said he was happy that his PDP-led government would be succeeded by another PDP government, stressing that it would make for sustenance of policies and uninterrupted development.

He said that his administration has kept faith with Abia citizens by “enthroning equity, justice and fairness” with the election of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu from the Ukwa/Ngwa political bloc for the first time in the history of Abia state.

Responding on behalf of members, the committee chairman who is also the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Mkpa Agu Mkpa, assured that they would carry out their assignment with “utmost commitment, dedication and dispatch," adding that the committee members were competent in their various areas of endeavour.

He enjoined commissioners to be ready to assist the committee by availing them of all needed information to enable them do a good job and keep to the time schedule.
