The peace that pervaded during yesterday’s governorship supplementary election in Taraba State was shattered last night by sporadic shooting at a collation centre in Takum Local Government Area.

“The gunshots had caused scare in the north-east state, a region that had witnessed years of terrorists’ attacks. No number of casualties have been reported,” said a Channels Television report.

The correspondent, Yemi Kosoko, said: “News just filtered in that there is a problem in collation centre in Takum where the results of elections held in the local council were being collated. There was sporadic shooting at the collation centre. Apart from that, there are no other incidents reported so far.”

The supplementary election held in three registration areas in the local council, where the April 11 elections were declared inconclusive.

The election was held in 10 local government areas of Bali Zing, Takum, Yorro, Donga, Wukari, Ussa, Karim Lamido, Kurmi and Jalingo.

The exercise held in 159 polling units with a potential 127,125 registered voters expected to exercise their franchise.

INEC had declared the April 11 nationwide polls inconclusive in Abia, Imo and Taraba states. New governors were declared for Abia (PDP’s Alex Ikpeazu) and Imo (APC’s Rochas Okorocha) this morning by INEC, leaving Taraba as the only state where a governor is yet to emerge between PDP’s Darius Ishaku and APC’s Aisha Al-Hassan.
