Spanish giants Barcelona will have the chance to avenge their 2013 humbling by Bayern Munich after being paired with the Germans again in the European Champions League semi-finals drawn today at Lyon, France. Holders Real Madrid of Spain will be up against Italian giants Juventus in the other semi-final showdown.
The Bayern-Barcelona match is a repeat of the 2013 semi-final when the German side thrashed the Catalan club 7-0 on aggregate before going on to beat Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, England, to win their fifth European Cup. Pep Guardiola, the Bayern Munich manager, will return to face his former club, who do not have a good record against Bayern, winning only one of their matches in the competition.
The first legs will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 5 and 6, with the return legs on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 12 and 13. The final will take place at Berlin’s Olympiastadion on Saturday, June 6.
The draw leaves open the possibility of a first Barcelona v Real Madrid final.
