An armed prison warder shot and killed a protester on Thursday.

The body of the protester was taken by rioters to Barracks Road Roundabout just before Government House.

I ran over there to speak to both the police and the protesters. The police showed great restraint and the protesters, thank God, heeded my advice.

Very sad to see the dead body and sad to see the anguish in the faces of the protesters.

As the riot became more violent, people were running helter-skelter.

Access Bank was burnt down. De Choice Mall was invaded but protected by the police. The whole of Uyo is presently locked down.

I am grateful to the Nigerian Police Force for the respect shown to me as I stood between them and the protesters while trying to calm things down. I am also grateful to them for the restraint they exhibited towards the protesters.

The Prison Warder that shot and killed the protester has been arrested. He will face charges of murder.

To the people of Akwa Ibom State I urge maximum restraint. To the protesters I urge them all to march peacefully and also show restraint.

To the policemen who stood protecting me as I spoke to calm things down, I say thank you!

Long Live The Federal Republic of Nigeria.
